Darnell Price advanced to the National Golden Gloves Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah (in May, 2013) after successfully winning his matches in the Southern Regional Golden Gloves Tournament (in April, 2013) in Knoxville, Tennessee. And before that, the State's Golden Gloves Championship event in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Price was fighting out of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, but representing the Washington D.C. team in Salt Lake City.
In the 201 lbs. quarter-finals on Thursday, May 17, Price decisioned Bryan Daniels of New England and advanced to the semi- finals.
In the other quarter-final bout that day, Earl Newman of New York Metro decisioned Demarkus Minter of Cleveland, Ohio.
In the 201 lbs. semi-finals on Friday, May 18, Darnell Price lost to Joshua Temple of St. Louis, Missouri by RSC (Referee Stops Contest).
In the championship finals the following day (Saturday, May 19), Joshua Temple then lost to Earl Newman. Newman won the National Golden Gloves Champion title in the 201 lb. division.
The Fox Sports Carolinas Network will broadcast the event that took place in Salt Lake City this Saturday, June 22 at 2:00PM and again at 9:00PM.
